Runaway Runway — A Recycled Design Competition and Fashion Show

Runaway Runway

What is Runaway Runway? In the juried design competition, designers re-imagine post-consumer trash into ultra-creative wearables.

It’s a runway extravaganza. The design contest is wrapped in an entertaining fashion show and evening extravaganza, held in early spring.

It’s a fundraiser. Event proceeds provide for the annual educational programming of Columbia Design League.

Runaway Runway 2015

Designer Jamine Santiago captured the award for Runaway Runway 2015’s Top Design — The Bruce Bahr Award — for a first-ever winning collection of three entries. Santiago’s stunning collection — including an extra design and toy for a toddler model — was made using old 1960s-era Army supplies including a tent, blanket, ammunition holder, backpack, buckles and parachute.

The show, hosted by Tyron McFarlan, a former Ringmaster for Ringling Brothers Circus, featured 48 designs, special sponsor designs created by past RR winners Madison Cotterill and Kaitlin Machos, food trucks, signature cocktails and musical crowd-pleaser DJ GLDFNGR.
